2017 SWIM TEAM Information

FOXCROFT FINS… We Swim Great!!!!!!

IMG_1410The Foxcroft Fins offer an excellent opportunity for your children to swim in an exciting yet low pressure environment. The goal of the swim team is to promote great team spirit while emphasizing personal improvement and achievement. And yes, we WILL still be swimming in 2017! All of our meets will be away, and please stay tuned for our practice location to be announced soon. Sign up and help us put forth a strong team effort this season as we await our brand new pool!!!!

Registration: Swim Team Registration is now online only!  In person dates – May 7th & May 14th from 2:00-5:00pm at the changed location – the Cantrell home on 3919 Abingdon Road 28211. The swimsuit fitter will be on-hand to order/purchase swim team suits both days (from 2-4). Registration fees are $75 per swimmer* through May 15th. After May 15th, the registration fee increases to $85.

*Please note that there is no fee for swimmers in the 15-18 age group. Due to busy schedules these teenagers often don’t make it to all of the practices. However, we want to encourage them to swim at our meets!

IMG_3747Season Kick-Off Mandatory Parent Meeting: PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF LOCATION: At least one parent from each swimming family must attend the season kick-off meeting, which will take place on the front lawn of the Cantrells’ home on 3919 Abingdon Road 28211 on May 7th at 4:00 pm. This meeting will cover all of the season events and parent responsibilities. It’s a useful introduction for new families and is a good brush-up for our returning swimmers. We had hoped to meet at the new pool so that everyone could get a sneak peek, but as the building is still under construction, it’s not safe for our kids to be running around there just yet.

Team Eligibility: All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. Any swimmer unable to swim the length of the pool at the Season Opening Practice Meet will not be permitted to swim in SPSL meets.  Any swimmer, age 18 or under, as of May 31st, who is a child of a Foxcroft Hills Swim Club member, is eligible to swim for the team. Exception: Graduating high school seniors who have had their 19th birthday are still eligible to swim.

Coaching Staff: We are thrilled to welcome Kate Knight back as our Head Coach this year! Kate has been a Fin since the age of 4, and this will be her second season coaching our team. Our assistant coaches this year are Joseph Hargrove, PJ Yoder, Will Borin, Will Knight, Katherine Bowers, Turner Bobbit, and Seth Capizzi.

Ordering Your Team Suit: Our old suit is no longer available, so it’s time to buy new suits for everyone.  This season, we’re going with a black suit with green blocking on the sides, and our team initials on the front of the suit. The suit fitter will be poolside from 2-5 only on May 7th and 14th, our in-person registration days. To order your suit online, go to www.augustaswim.com, click on TEAMS on the left. Our user name is FXH, and our password is 1234. If you order before May 17th, shipping is free, and I will receive the order. Orders placed after May 17th will be sent directly to you, and you will need to pay shipping. Also, there is a physical store in Ft. Mill; if you need that information, contact Sherry Cantrell,

Volunteer Sign-ups: In addition to the coaching staff, all of our swim meets are run by our parents. As in years past, each family is required to volunteer at three meets and one “food” event (e.g. kick-off party, end-of-season banquet, or Friday snacks). Families with swimmers under the age of 6 will only be required to work at two swim meets and one special event. You will select the three meets at which you volunteer online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0448a8a629a6ff2-summer. Please select your Special Events Volunteer spot on the registration page as you sign up. Since our meets cannot run without volunteer staffing, if you do not select your volunteer dates, then dates will be assigned to you. If you are unable to make those dates, it is your responsibility to find a replacement volunteer.

Practice Meet/Season Kick-Off Party: will take place this year on Wednesday, May 31st. This meet allows the coaches to time all swimmers (and use said times to seed all of the meets), allows new swimmers to experience a swim meet atmosphere, and provides the first get-together for all the swimming parents! We also take the team picture, distribute T-shirts, and our kids eat lots of pizza.

“NO-SWIM” LISTS: For each meet, the coaches spend a significant amount of time getting all of the swimmers entered correctly in the 70+ races. Please let us know as soon as you possibly can if your child(ren) will be unable to swim. If you already have anticipated absences (vacation or camps planned), please submit those dates!
